3 Days in Shimla for a Relaxed Getaway
Shimla is my favorite hill station for a slow-paced break. The cool mountain air, colonial charm, and easy walks make it perfect for unwinding. I've spent many weekends here just soaking in the views, eating local food, and enjoying the laid-back vibe. This itinerary keeps things simple with plenty of time to relax between sightseeing.

Day 1
Day 1 in Shimla
Kick off your Shimla trip with its most iconic spots, soaking in colonial charm, scenic views, and local flavors.
Activities
Walk the Ridge & Mall Road
Start your day with a leisurely stroll along the Ridge, Shimla's open square with panoramic Himalayan views. The colonial-era Christ Church and Gaiety Theatre add old-world charm. Then, head to Mall Road, Shimla's bustling heart, lined with shops, cafes, and historic buildings. Perfect for people-watching and picking up souvenirs.
- Try hot chocolate at Café Simla Times
- Wear comfy shoes—it’s all pedestrian-only
Visit Jakhu Temple
A short but steep hike (or cab ride) takes you to Jakhu Temple, dedicated to Lord Hanuman. The giant Hanuman statue and serene forest setting make it worth the climb. Keep an eye out for playful monkeys—they’re notorious for snatching food!
- Carry a stick for monkeys (sold cheaply nearby)
- Wear layers—it’s cooler up here
Sunset at Scandal Point
Wrap up the day at Scandal Point, a lively spot with legends of a runaway British officer. It’s perfect for golden-hour photos of the mountains and watching street performers. Nearby, grab a seat at Wake & Bake for their famous momos with chutney.

Explore Christ Church & Heritage Walk
Start your day at Shimla's iconic Christ Church, the second oldest in North India, with stunning stained glass and peaceful vibes. - Dress modestly for church visits
- Look for the brass plaque inside commemorating WWI soldiers
Morning at Annandale Ground
This historic flat ground surrounded by dense forests was once a British army playground. Today it's perfect for a peaceful stroll or picnic. The army museum here (closed Mondays) has fascinating old photos of Shimla's transformation. The deodar trees here are some of the oldest in Shimla.
